How Chalcedony began.
Chalcedony High School was founded in Kubwa, Abuja with a clear conviction: a Nigerian secondary school can be genuinely world-class, warm, and affordable — all at once. Parents should not have to choose between rigorous academics and character formation, or between modern facilities and reasonable fees.
Today, from two Kubwa campuses, our teachers guide students through a curriculum that pairs the depth of the Nigerian secondary syllabus with the future-ready skills — coding, robotics, design thinking, entrepreneurship — that the next decade will demand.
We are named for the chalcedony stone: patient, layered, quietly strong. That is the kind of student we set out to form.
Dr Mary A. Chinwuba — an astute academician and lifelong lover of knowledge.
Dr Mary A. Chinwuba leads Chalcedony High School with the mind of a scholar and the heart of a teacher. A trained educationist, certified counsellor, trainer and prolific content writer, she has spent her career in classrooms, lecture halls and leadership rooms — never far from the two things that shape her: students, and the pursuit of knowledge.
Her academic record speaks for a lifelong lover of learning — a PhD, a Master's in Education, a PGDE and TRCN registration, alongside professional fellowships including FEFT and, most recently, Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management and Leadership (FCIML), Kentucky, USA — an honour she accepted with a public pledge to uphold the institute's values, vision and mission.
Under her leadership, Chalcedony has become a school where academic rigor, moral clarity and future-ready thinking meet — and where every child is taught, above all else, that knowledge is worth pursuing for its own sake.
